Viruses

I've been seeing a lot of viruses going around in DoD downloads (not here)

So, if that happens, restart your computer and during reboot press F8 over and over, it will give you a list of start up ways.

Choose safe mode. It will boot and bring you to the log in screen.

Log in on administrator and virus scan.

I think that if you are infected with a virus thats pretty much it. you cant take it out if it has spread out. anti virus only prevents viruses it doesnt not remove them.

No. Like SpyKiller, scans and kills. Trend Micro scans and kills. That's what I meant.

How you know that you have one?

Things that don't normally happen do, like restarting of your computer automatically. And ect.

Virii do a lot of different things. But the worst thing to be concerned about (from a gamers perspective) is spyware. Spyware takes your personal information gathered and sends it to advertising companies, or just people with too much spare time. There are two programs that are well known for their ability to get rid of spyware, Spybot: Search and Destroy, and Ad-Aware SE Personal. Both are free, and both will reduce your ping.

Ad-Aware wont diminish Bandwidth, unless you have the full version with the Active Watcher program enabled.
