Ordering Parts for New Gaming Computer! Empty Ordering Parts for New Gaming Computer!

Post by Seraph Thu Sep 06, 2007 10:37 pm

WOOHOO!!!
around 900 bucks for the computer
maybe 200 for monitor
total? 1100 + maybe 50 bucks shipping? AWESOME

Parts:
Vid Card (FUCK YEAH): GeForce 8800 GTS
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo e6750 2.66 Ghz
PSU: Corsair 520 W (I guess over 500 W is enough)
Case: Antec 900 (4 cooling fans built in!!! lol)
Ram: Patriot Extreme 2GB (meh, this company or corsair)
whatever DVD burner drive
I think that's about it.
HD: some 500 GB 7200 RPM piece.

ALSO, the G5 logitech gaming mouse (same shape as my MX700 wireless, but one less button on the left... great shape + you can change the weight of the mouse.. fucking sick)

so.
320 MB vid card... Nvidia 8800 GTS. fuck yes
2.66 Ghz intel processor... but probably gunna overclock to 3.4 ghz
2 gigs of ram. fuck yesh. been waiting forever to get a new computer. never had more than 512 ram on a system before. LOL.

This is a HUGE improvement for me.

As many of you know, I've been playing on my laptop that I've had since my freshman year @ UCLA (4.5 years ago). Decent video card... Ati Radeon mobility 9600... but... I can only run Dod//cs source @ 480 640 resolution and lowest of low settings to get a decent FPS to play... on real maps my FPS drops to like 10 to 20 often... and max out @ like 45 unless I'm staring @ a wall. On arena maps however, I perform much better (less textures, go figure)... which is why I play them so much more often. haha.

I'm SO HAPPY!

WOOOOOHOOOOOO

now I can be more like you people that have desktops. lol.

So.... are you just posting because you are excited, or are you actually in need of help?

Also, if I was going to overclock anything other than a celeron or a sempron that much, I would buy an aftermarket heatsink, namely a Zalman CNPS9x00 series cooler:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010110574&srchInDesc=Zalman&bop=And&CompareItemList=N82E16835118223%2CN82E16835118019%2CN82E16835118003%2CN82E16835118020

Thermalright heatsink:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010110574%2050001444&bop=And&CompareItemList=N82E16835109140%2CN82E16835109014%2CN82E16835109129%2CN82E16835109125

Or a scythe ninja or katana series heatsink:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010110574%2050002108&bop=And&CompareItemList=N82E16835185027%2CN82E16835185046%2CN82E16835185038%2CN82E16835185044

Also, here is a link that should help you decide on one if you choose to get a heatsink:
http://anandtech.com/casecoolingpsus/showdoc.aspx?i=3068&p=6

If you look at the chart and the previous pages you can see how well the heatsinks cooled at which settings and how loud they were. Also, the heatsink they reviewed is a very good choice as you can see.

Hope for the best. Thanks.

another thing I found was that If you are planning on getting a E6700 you should instead get the E6750 because it seems to be much cheaper and it performs the same or better than then E6700. If you save as mcuh as I think you will, then you can choose either to buy a better video card (ie: 2900XT 512MB or 8800GTS 640 Overclocked version from some company), or spend it on a processor like the Q6600 and OC that to 3.4 GHz; it's a little cheaper than the E6700 on newegg.com. I also would say that you should buy eVGA brand video cards since they seem to be the best brand overall because of their "Step-up" program.
